Bernard E. Wright, 93, of Calvin, PA, died Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona, PA.
Born on July 28, 1930 in Huntingdon County, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Gladys (Wilson) Wright. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline Fissel on October 31, 1952. Mrs. Wright survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Jeffrey Wright and wife Deborah, Belleville, PA and Matthew Wright and wife Carolyn, Calvin, PA, daughter Stephanie Swartz and husband Reeder, Calvin, PA, granddaughter Megan Lepore and husband Angelo and great-grandchildren Dante and Ileana. Brothers W. Glenn Wright and Gene Wright and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by sister Lois Wright.
He graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1948.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954. He served on the destroyer escort USS Walton 361 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Upon return to Cassville, he purchased his grandfather's farm which he dairy farmed for a few years. He worked for Agway Corporation for a short time and then began his career as a self-employed craftsman carpenter. In 1988, he and his nephew Scott Wright formed Wright and Wright Builders from which he retired in 1995.
He continued woodworking and building custom furniture for family and friends and spent many hours in his carpentry shop. He enjoyed trout fishing, deer hunting, and hunting rabbits with his beagles.
Mr. Wright was the last living charter member of the Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company. He also served on the Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery Committee for many years.
He was very active in boy scouts, serving as scoutmaster of Troop 215 of Trough Creek Valley for many years. He was a long time member of the Boy Scouts Oneida district committee.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, 245 Seminary St., Cassville, PA with Pastor Dan Mansberger officiating. Interment will be at Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery, Calvin, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 - 9:00 PM Tuesday evening and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company, 103 Seminary St., Cassville, PA, 16623 or to the Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery, PO Box 184, Calvin, PA.
