Harold K. (Abe) Lynn, 96, Cassville, PA, peacefully went to join his Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 27, 2020 after a courageous battle with rectal cancer. Mr. Lynn passed into his eternal home from his home, which was his fervent desire.
Born February 13, 1924 in Aitch, PA, he was the son of James M. and Verna (Hetrick) Lynn. He was married to the former Eva Pheasant in Galveston, Texas, December 20, 1944; together they shared 67 years of marriage. Mrs. Lynn preceded him in death January 22, 2012.
Mr. Lynn is survived by a son Robert Lynn and his wife Donna of Turbotville, PA, grand son Jason, granddaughter Deirdre, and step granddaughter Michelle and her husband Nathan; great-grandson Trace and step great-grandsons Joel and Cole. He is also survived by a half-sister, Jean Bookwalter of Hesston, PA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lynn and William Lynn; a sister Mary Catherine Grubb; half-brother Ronald Lynn and half-sister Martha Schirm.
Mr. Lynn was a 70 year member of Trough Creek United Methodist Church, Todd, PA. He was a veteran of World War II, and served with pride in the United States Army Air Corps as a B-24 lead mechanic. He spoke often of his maintenance work on General Doolittle’s private B-24 on his way to attack Tokyo. He retired from the former Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon after 38 years of service. He was a Charter Member of the Trough Creek Volunteer Fire Company, and a Life member of the American Legion.
Mr. Lynn was especially proud of his “open door” attitude toward guests. It was not uncommon to see people from all over the country stop in to say “hello”. Many of his friends would drive several hours to spend an afternoon with Mr. Lynn. His friendship will be cherished by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched.
The family especially wants to thank the Nurses, Aides, and staff of UPMC Hospice, whose care and compassion was a comfort for Mr. Lynn, and a solace for the family. A very special heartfelt thank you to his friends and neighbors in the Valley, without whose love and support he would not have been able to fulfill his final wishes of staying at home.
Due to Covid, a graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Trough Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, Todd, PA. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Harter, his Hospice Pastor. Masks are requested.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Trough Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery Association, c/o Tom George, 19478 Cooks Road, Cassville, PA 16623; or to UPMC Hospice, 9492 William Penn Highway, Huntingdon, PA 16652.
