Robert A. Bliss, 89, of Mill Creek, PA, passed away on Saturday, March, 29, 2025 at Penn Highlands Huntingdon, Huntingdon, PA.
Born on June 22, 1935 in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late George and Ruth (Glunt) Bliss. He was united in marriage to Shirley Roland. Mrs. Bliss survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Tim Bliss and wife Jacquita, Michael Bliss and wife Carolyn, Brian Bliss and wife Patty and Shirley Lear and husband Raymond. There are 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Siblings George Bliss, Jr., Gerald Bliss, John Bliss, William Bliss, Joseph Bliss, Ruth McMath, Barbara Getz, Shirley Cannon and Patricia Wagner preceded him in death.
Mr. Bliss left school in 10th grade to enlist in the United States Army (1955-1958). He later earned his High School diploma from attending night school. After the military, Robert worked for Shetrom’s Plumbing. After that, he attended the Williamsport Technical Institute and received a degree in Carpentry and Cabinet Making. With his degree, Robert built and installed many cabinets during renovations of many homes locally, as well as performing projects for parks and colleges.
Robert was later employed at SCI Huntingdon as a corrections officer for 26 years and retired in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, 245 Seminary St., Cassville, PA with Pastor Ted Hughes officiating. Private interment will be at Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery, Calvin, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
